Our History

1974

Emmett Conway, Jr. began sawing logs with a small Frick Mill on 2500 acres of forestland managed by his father (professional forester) north of Richland State Forest in Southeastern Ohio.
1979

Conway Lumber Company was incorporated with a sawmill in McArthur, Ohio.
1982

Superior Hardwoods of Ohio, Inc. was founded with its first sawmill in Wellston, Ohio.
1985

Superior added the Cambridge Division with the purchase of the old Hinchcliff mill on Ohio Avenue.
1987

Superior established a log yard on Mill Run Road in Parkersburg, West Virginia.
2003

Conway Lumber and SH merged to continue as Superior Hardwoods of Ohio, Inc.
2009

During the recession, Superior expanded and purchased the Barlow Division to add sawmill and dry kiln capacity to further diversify product offerings.
2021

Superior opened SH Dimension in Wellston, Ohio with the addition of a 50,000 square foot warehouse, offering retail and dimension lumber services, including custom surfacing, ripping, and chopping lines.
2021

Superior established the Belpre Barge Division to expand chip markets for their products and for mills throughout the region.
